The Phelan-McGinnis Mansion

We were pleased to be asked to help ready this magnificent historic property for re-sale. Built in 1915 by architect, Charles Peter Weeks, the property was the home of one of early California’s most respected movers and shakers, James Phelan. Senator Phelan, a patron of the arts as well as an important political figure, also built the historic Saratoga estate "Montalvo," now a public arts center.

We took our design cues from the honey colored brick and cast stone detailing of this Romanesque revival building, using golden gravel mulches, formal evergreens, and a mass planting of English lavender in order to enhance the mediterranean character of the property.
